FAQ: If you asked questions, this is how I would answer

Equipment:
Q: What kind of camera do you use?
A: Panasonic DVX 100A

Q: Where did you get the figrig?
A: I made it.

Q: What kind of light do you use?
A: In Joined and Don’t Go Back To Ray’s! I used work halogens you can get from any Home Depot or Lowe’s. I have moved on to two 1000 WATT VARIABLE OUTPUT halogens with soft boxes. I go the kit from Steve Kaeser Lighting

Q: Where did you get your gear?
A: I found most of it on Ebay.

Q: What kind of computer do you use?
A: A Intel Quad Core with 2 Gigs of Ram running Windows XP. I would use my MacBook Pro but I don’t have the hard drive space. On that note, make sure you have a shit load of drives space!

Software:
Q: What kind of software do you use?
A: Sony Vegas 7 for editing and After Effects for compositing. Video Copilot has some good effects for the digital artist. I use Celtx for all my script writing.

Getting Started:
Q: How did you get your start as a wannabe director?
A: It was purely by accident. My friend Blaine dragged me back into acting. I joined The Short End Project. After two years of acting I figured what the hell?! It was downhill from there.

Q: How can I get started?
A: Write a script grab a camera, some lights and get your friends to help you out. Hit the ground running. Now if you want to make a good film that is a totally different story. :D Study the techniques used in your favorite films and try them our yourself. Start small and work your way up. Just remember your first film is going to suck! It’s all about learn what to do and what not to do. Don’t waste your time film a 15 minute piece of shit, start with 5 minutes. Also learn your limits. If you will never write a good script find someone who will. Remember it’s all about telling a compelling story. Be your own Director of Photography (DP).

Get involved with your local film community. Trust me it’s there you just need to look for it. Crew on a few short films. Watch how they do things. Your learn a lot about what not to do when making a film! Your local city government should have a Film Commissioner. Talk to them and they can get your hooked up. If your city is to small to have one find one else were.

Q: Why don’t you put your movies on YouTube?
A: Most of the movies I make are longer than 10 minutes. However, I’ve been thinking of adding some of the shorter ones.

Q: Who is the girl in the Dark Design Pictures log?
A: That is Lisa. She was a co-worker of mine at the Beach a few years back. She also played Renee in my first short film. I took the photo while we were testing the makeup for the ghost. I like it so much I made it a part of the logo.

Q: You have Voice in the Dark listed but you don’t have the movie posted. Why?
A: Well for two reason. 1. It’s my first film and I’m kind of embraced by it. It’s kind of boring. 2. I don’t want to establish any cannon to my story yet. My ideas have changed over the years. The original short contradicts the new story.

Q: Are you ever going to film anything for Voice in the Dark?
A: Yes, I want to shoot the first two films in 2009. There is some more equipment I would like to get first before shoot. I also want to refine my skills with After Effects.

Q: You haven’t updated your home page in a while. What’s up with that?
A: I’m lazy. It’s easier to keep the blog up to date. At some point I want it to pull stuff from the blog.
